Nickel 201 Precision Tube (UNS N02201)

Nickel 201 tube is a high-purity nickel alloy tube with excellent corrosion resistance and reduction resistance. It is particularly suitable for some extreme environments, such as high temperature, strong acid and alkaline conditions.

Description

Nickel 201 is a deformed nickel alloy belonging to the commercial pure nickel series, containing more than 99.6% nickel, supplemented by carbon, manganese, silicon and other elements.

Nickel 201 is a low-carbon variant of Nickel 200. Compared with Nickel 200, Nickel 201 has better corrosion resistance at temperatures above 300℃ (570℉) and is more suitable for use in high temperature environments.

Why is Nickel 201 more suitable for high temperature environments than 200?

The main difference between the two is the chemical composition. Nickel 200 contains 0.15% carbon, while Nickel 201 has a very low carbon content of only 0.02%.

In high temperature environment, the carbon in nickel material will diffuse and easily form carbides with other metal elements (such as iron and chromium), which will weaken the grain boundary of the material, make the material brittle, and affect its structural integrity; at the same time, the precipitation of carbides will also cause intergranular corrosion, especially in acidic or reducing atmospheres, nickel materials at high temperatures are more susceptible to corrosion.

The low carbon content of Nickel 201 reduces the precipitation of carbides, can maintain structural stability at high temperatures, and is not easy to brittle, thereby extending the service life of the material in high temperature environments; effectively avoid intergranular corrosion and have higher corrosion resistance.
