VIEW MORE+Monel K500 Tube is a type of nickel-copper alloy that combines the excellent corrosion resistance of alloy 400 with increased strength and hardness. Alloy K500 Tube offers three times the yield strength of alloy 400.
What is Monel K500 Tube?
Monel K500 is a nickel-copper alloy that contains small amounts of aluminum and titanium. It is known for its excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in marine environments and acidic conditions. Monel K500 tubes are typically used in various industries such as marine engineering, chemical processing, oil and gas, and aerospace. Monel K500 Tube combines the excellent corrosion resistance of alloy 400 with increased strength and hardness. Alloy K500 Tube offers three times the yield strength of alloy 400. These enhanced properties are achieved through the addition of aluminum and titanium elements, along with age-hardening. During the age-hardening process, trace Ni3 (titanium, aluminum) particles precipitate into the matrix.
The addition of aluminum and titanium to the alloy enhances its strength and hardness, making it suitable for applications where high strength and resistance to corrosion are required. Monel K500 tubes are often used in tubing systems for carrying corrosive fluids or gases, heat exchangers, and other demanding environments where conventional materials might fail.
Monel K500 Tubes low magnetic permeability, high strength, and corrosion resistance similar to steel make it widely used, particularly in oil well equipment and electronic components. An important characteristic is that K500 Tube remains non-magnetic even at very low temperatures. Age-hardening results in initial volume contraction. During the age-hardening process, rods with a diameter of 2.5×10-4 inches undergo contraction. To achieve good performance, the typical age-hardening process involves holding at 982°C for 30 minutes and then water quenching. After holding at 593°C-607°C for 16 hours, slow cool in the furnace at a rate of 9.4°C to -3.8°C per hour until reaching 482°C. Afterward, cool from 482°C to room temperature, with intermediate steps possibly involving air cooling or quenching, without specific cooling rates.
