What is Mechanical Tubing?

What is mechanical tubing?

Mechanical tubes are typically steel tubes used in mechanical equipment, engineering construction, manufacturing, and processing. They can be used to convey fluids and gases or as structural support.

Mechanical steel tubes are classified into numerous varieties based on their manufacturing technique, materials, and applications.

Manufacturing Method:
Seamless steel tube: A seamless steel tube is created by stretching or rolling it using a particular method. It is seamless throughout.

Welded steel tube: be formed by fusing the two ends of a steel plate or strip material, which can be welded directly or numerous times.

Process Method:
DOM: Drawn over mandrel tubing, created by cold drawing the electric resistance welded tube, with improved dimensional tolerance and welding strength.

CDS: Cold drawn seamless tubing, a tube formed by passing the steel billet through a hole with a specific size of round holes, progressively reducing the diameter and increasing the wall thickness through multiple drawn operations.

HRS: Hot rolled seamless tubing, a type of steel tube made by hot rolling. A steel tube is made by heating a solid steel billet, piercing it, then hot rolling and sizing it. It has smooth inner and exterior surfaces and no weld flaws, making it suited for settings with high strength, temperature, or pressure.

ERW: Electric resistance welded tubing, a steel strip is passed through a shaping machine under pressure to make a hollow tube, and then the material is heated to a temperature higher than 2000°F for welding.
