What is CDS Tubing?

The machinery industry is a countrys foundational industry, supplying the required equipment and tools for the growth of other industries. Cold-drawn seamless steel tubes are a prominent type of mechanical tube used in the machinery industry.

CDS tubing, also known as cold-drawn seamless tube, is typically manufactured of metal materials by the cold drawing technique. CDS tubes, unlike welded pipes, have no seams, have higher compressive strength and mechanical qualities, and are commonly used in mechanical structures, mechanical production, and other sectors.

Process of CDS Steel Tubing

CDS steel tubing is normally made from high-quality steel billets.

✔ Hot piercing: heating the prepared steel billet and piercing it into a hollow tube.

✔ Cutting + surface treatment (pickling, cleaning, etc.).

↓

✔ Cold drawing: The hollow tube is drawn to the necessary size using a drawing procedure at room temperature.

Depending on the size, the steel tube may require many cold drawing cycles to achieve the desired size. Following the cold drawing, the pipe must go through a number of further processes, including heat treatment, appearance and performance testing, size, and packaging.

Function of Cold drawing

✔ Improve material strength and hardness

During the cold drawing process, the steel experiences plastic deformation during the stretching phase, which refines the interior grains and eliminates internal flaws.

✔ Improve surface quality

The drawing process eliminates oxides from the surface of the steel pipe, reducing surface flaws.

✔ Increase dimensional accuracy

The steel pipes outside diameter and wall thickness may be accurately controlled, with typically lower dimensional errors than hot rolling or other processing methods.
